In December 2004 a group of Arkansas Faith in Action programs which had been funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation through its national Faith in Action Program came together to formulate a State Coalition to provide an on-going presence within the State.
These Arkansas Faith in Action programs wanted to 1) continue to network together and with other faith-based organizations, 2) provide a method of gaining and dispensing technical assistance to faith-based programs throughout the State, 3) provide start up help for communities who wanted to develop programs based on the five building blocks of the Faith in Action Model, and 4) assist in providing sustainability for the member organizations through developing collaboratives for grant work.
In early 2005, the Arkansas Faith in Action State Coalition was incorporated as a non-profit under Arkansas law. In July of 2006, the Coalition received 501 c 3 status from the IRS.
